Halloween!

We had a good time last night for Halloween. Another difference between here in Ketchikan and in Portland though. In Portland we did the traditional either walking door to door or go to the mall when the kids were young like lots of people. Difference here is there is no actual mall and unless you drive into town and brave through all the other crazy kids and trying not to run anyone over you can't really do the normal walking door to door. The houses are pretty decently far apart and we aren't the only ones where kids would have to walk down a woodsy area to get to a front door. So what is the solution they have come up with here? It's called Trick or Trunk at the school! Basically the school gets parents to volunteer to park their car (or whatever) in the parking lot, decorate it and pass out candy. Not a bad idea. Actually it's a pretty good idea even if you don't live in the middle of nowhere, Alaska!

Yes I was one of those volunteering parents. After all why not. It sounded fun. The kids had a great time. Looky at my little CareBear Madison....

Isn't she cute?! I'm not exactly sure where Joshua was going with a costume this year. He said he was a hobo but I think it was just an excuse to tear up clothes. Ah well the kid does it anyway at least he had an excuse for it this time and the pants were actually already torn with holes in the knees.

Did I mention I thought Madison was cute!

We did decorate our car. I was originally hoping to have the Durango for this but the water pump went out and I lost my power steering and a belt so that was a no go (yes my hubby is a mechanic so I know exactly what I am saying right there, are you proud of me?). The Durango would have been nice as it would have been better cover when we did get rained on although the weather was actually pretty decent and we only had a short period where we got very wet. Here is how we go the Taurus decorated. Uhm don't ask about the mask in front of the trunk that just appeared there from Joshua somehow, he didn't wear it but kept having it around. Kid is just weird......We also had a cd playing with scary sounds. Here's a video, I walked over so you could hear it but then started talking to the girls

Seriously that bracelet Kenzie is asking about? Izzak had the same one and it was not well designed for getting attached and my chilly fingers were just not getting it done for Izzaks let alone trying another exactly the same.

"Kenzie, show us your costume.....you have to open your coat though for us to see!"

Aww much better....although you can't see the cool sleeves it had on it. She wanted to be a old fashion princess, her words. Honestly I thought she was gorgeous, but I think she is beautiful all the time so I guess I'm a bit biased.

Uncle Josh helped hand out candy since daddy had to work. I didn't really want to go here and keep track of the kiddo's myself, you know!

Izzak was supposed to be helping hand out candy also since we decided a long time ago that middle school would be our cutoff for dressing up and trick or treating. He managed to disappear and get some trick or treating in though!

"Kenzie how's the trick or treating going?

See for yourself!

Not bad, you think?

Joshua is a member of the student council at his school so he was partially working during this time. One of his jobs was to sit in a minivan behind a curtain handing out candy and popping out to scar people. He did a pretty good job, they were right next to us. I took this picture by sticking my camera in the curtain and surprising him.

McKenzie is our little social butterfly and was gone most of the evening walking around with her friends. Here she is with one of them. They were arm in arm all night.
Madisons hands were cold so she took her uncles gloves from him. She also decided she was tired of standing straight up so she was leaning like this. Do you see her little rubber boots? My kid so fits in around here! She lives for those rubber boots and feels they go with everything!
Madison was helping hand out candy after walking around the cars once. She is not a big fan of Halloween as she is terrified of people behind masks and anything scary. In fact one of the little stores I go to that is near the house has a scarry ghost creature above one of the checkout lines and she absolutely refuses to go anywhere near it. She will walk up and down aisles to make sure she doesn't have to see it. She is better though just a year ago when she would see someone in a mask she would scream and seemed terrified now she still won't go anywhere near them but she is quiet and will stand behind someone instead of screaming.

She did well with the handing out candy though, she just woundn't had out any candy to scarry looking people so either her uncle or I would do that for her. I do think she was dipping into it though.

Doesn't she look like she is asking "who, me?" in this picture?

I really do think she is cute!

Oh and no, I didn't dress up!

The trunck or treat is a great idea when the houses aren't very close together. Plus you only get people participating that really want to be there!

I was just about to ask - and then you answered - must have read my mind....

That is how 'Halloween' is done - a great time for all - pity it was sooooo cold....

From what I could see - your car was the best decorated!!!

Someone told me they do a similar thing at our local library - in the parking garage. Maybe next year.
