Tough couple weeks

So it's has been a tough couple of weeks in our family. I told you last week that Kelly's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. Well we found out on Monday that it had not only metastisized to her liver but also her bones as well. She is doing okay but we are obviously worried at the moment and hoping to convince her to go to a bigger hospital then the small town she lives in at the moment.

I went to the ER on Saturday to find out why my face was swelling and they said I had an abcessed tooth. Of course as usual I got told by another doctor that I am not the typical 32 year old mother of 4 (oh really?). So I had to have several doses of IV antibiotics and now I am taking strong antibiotics. I saw a dentist on Monday and they said with my TMJ that they would have to refer me to an oral surgeon....of course they don't have those here in Ketchikan except for 2 days of the month and they were in last week. So I get to wait till the end of the month to have the tooth pulled.

Over the weekend Kelly's brother Josh who lives with us was having problems with double vision by Monday he was having difficulty walking a straight line at work and they took him to the ER where he had a CT and they found "something" in his brain and refered him to have an MRI the next day. Thursday he was able to get into a doctor and he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He is having high dose steriods right now to help stop the flare he is having but I've spent the last 2 days fighting with drs offices in Portland to find someone down there to see him. He has no insurance and they were all wanting him to establish with a primary dr in Portland to have them refer him which would make it take a lot longer to get him in. I was able to get him in with someone finally who is willing to work with his doctor up here so now we just have to wait for the appointment and get him flown down there to figure out what type of treatment he will have and get the "official" neurologist diagnosis.

So it's been a difficult week here. In the grand scheme of things my tooth issue would be a pretty mild thing except with my health issues I don't react to meds as quickly sometimes and they affect me differently as well. I'm feeling a little better today but still pretty yucky although my face is almost down to normal.

Don't forget that Sunday May 13 is Livestrong Day and wear yellow in support of cancer research. I know my family will definetly be this year.

May Kelly's sister be guided by the love and support from her family and friends and in knowing she has those around her who will 'listen' when she wishes to speak.

Be assured you are all in my thoughts and prayers (daily) along with Kennedy & Devon too.

Terri you and your family have so much to deal with here~ you are a strong person and I know you will get through it. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
There is an award for you over at my place but I'm sure you don't want to think about that at the moment.
Take care.

Oh Terri! I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this.

I am going to try and get a hold of an old friend with MS to get you some information for Kelly's brother...she controls hers through her diet and has had no flareups since the inital diagnosis. Hopefully she will have some info that may be of use.

You must be an amazingly strong woman to deal with all of that. To cry in private and keep your chin up in front of kids. My prayers are with you.

This is definitely a tough time for your family. How horrible to get a cancer dx and MS dx in the same week, even though two different people.

I am a cancer survivor and my cousin has been living with MS for the past 14 yrs, he was diagnosed at age 18.

I hope Kelly's sister is doing well and that his brother finds the meds that work for him.

Oh, sorry, I didn't forget you, TMJ can be very painful. I hope you relax a little and don't grind your teeth. :)
