Fun Monday questions

This weeks fun Monday is brought to us by Lisa at Lisa's chaos here is her challenge

What is one thing you would like to ask your readers? Come up with a question to pose to your visitors and throw it out there on Monday. As we’re all visiting each other’s Fun Monday posts we should answer the various questions we come across. OR Show&Tell me about a bird, I’m easily made happy.

Hmm I thought this didn't sound to hard but I've spent all week trying to think of a question to ask and couldn't think of anything original really.

So here is my unoriginal question for you all.

If you could live anywhere you wanted where would you live? I'm not talking your house either. A second part of that question is why do you want to live there and is that where you are now?

My answer to that question is that I do! I don't know why but ever since I was little I was attracted to Alaska and wanted to live there. Kelly and I used to talk about it when we were dating and about 10 or 11 years ago he was sent to Alaska by his work for 2 weeks and he knew this was where we were supposed to be even then. It took us 10 years to get here and have been here for nearly a year now. Actually this weekend will be the anniversary of our leaving Oregon to come here, which might have something to do with why I chose this as my topic. I've been here only a year now and feel more like this is home to me then the 18 years combined I lived in Oregon.

Some of the reasons for that I will admit are the views. I'll share some more with you. I'm not sure if I've shown these on my blog before. They are some favorites though.Another...and another
and one of my many favorites
Oh and for Lisa who likes the bird shots. I thought I would add this since she had it in the challenge also.
Eagles are a common sight here in our little part of Alaska. We saw these two in a tree just off the road on our way to a hike we were headed to.

I almost forgot. I had a question from a blogger friend about the population of our island so I figured this was as good a time as any to tell. Our regular population is about 10,000 but that goes up and down depending on the season which is why I say "regular population" it goes up to about 12,000 or so during the tourist season in the summer because of the people who come up here to work. During the "winterest" months it can drop lower when the people leave for a warmer dryer climate.

Oh I wish I had signed up for this one!

If I could live anywhere it would be Ireland. Preferably near Belfast, somewhere along the North Coast Road perhaps.

Why do I want to live there? I suppose it was a childhood desire, I always wanted to have been born there rather than England! And when I went there, I loved it. It was like coming home I suppose, as corny as that sounds.

my4kids said...

Emma, it's not corny in my opinion since that is how I felt when I moved to Alaska.

This is a lovely post Terri, as we have all followed your journey and know how much it meant to you to get achieve your dream.

The only place I would like to live is closer to my children and grandchildren but that is a pipe dream as we all live so far apart. So I must content myself with visits.

Great photos.

"Dreams Can Come True" as you have beautifully portrayed in your post.

Already your 1st anniversary in your new home - and how wonderful it is too - with such magnificent scenery.

Thanks for answering population question - another question - how big is your island (in miles please, cos I don't know the other).

As for me well (like you) I always dreamed of living on an island and whilst I have worked on an island (Jersey). I can now realise my dream - when I move in September to my dream isle and to be at one with nature and the seclusion.

Oh wow....I think if I had my druthers, I would live somewhere in Europe. And NOT the United States. I like the whole concept of the Europeans and their attitude, I like the culture, I like the whole shebang over there. Probably preferably somewhere in Ireland.

Good question.

Now come on over and answer my FM question.

You sure do live in a beautiful country! I love the eagles, how wonderful to see them all the time.

Im pretty happy living in Australia but I would love to move inland a little onto a property. I long to have a bit of land around me instead of a small yard.

What a stunning place. If I could move m,y whole family and a lot of my friends I would move down to Devon or Cornwall in the UK. It is stunning and full of character and I'd love to be by the sea.
Mainly though, I want to live near to my loved ones, so I'm dong that already in erm, sunny old Mansfield. :D

oh what a beautiful eagle. sigh. the only time we tried to get pictures of one we ended up stuck on the side of the road in the snow for 5 hours in february. argh. anyway, I want to live in a beautiful house out in the country, with enough room for my current fetus and any possible future bros and sis's to run and play and be kids. this house should be where we can run naked and no one will be able to see us so it wont be on you tube. oh yeah and it should be near enough to my husbands' dream job. crossing fingers this all may happen in the next few months. cross, cross!

Beccy said...

I can see why you're so content.

I am happy with where I live but a bigger house over the hill (would mean using the car less and would make the younger children more independent) would be perfect.

I wish my mum could live here in Ireland too.

Before I answer your question, I am going to embarrass myself and BEG you to check out my 50 State Postcard Challenge on the sidebar of my blog...we (my kids and i) still need Alaska! Would you consider??

To answer the question, I live in Maryland and would stay in the MD/PA area. I love the fact that I am half way between the mountains and the ocean!

That's a hard one for me because this area in WA has been my home for a long time. I think I want to move someplace WARM when I grow up - specifically location - I don't know.

Alaska is very high on the list of places Gregg and I want to visit in the next few years. From everything we've seen so far we both think we're going to love it. Right now though, we just got back from Prince Edward Island and within 10 minutes of stepping off the plane, I fell in love with the place. I would build a home on a beach I found that was so quiet and peaceful. I still dream about that place. Great question!

I think almost anywhere with enough money is ideal. That said, I'd stay here and travel.

I love the Pacific NW and want to live here always. However, I want to visit the entire world and see every other place.

What beautiful photos! I can see why people want to live there. It's gorgeous.
I would like to move back to Bavaria, Germany. It was such perfect weather, wonderful, people, I loved walking amongst all of that history, the convenience of public transportation, the little shops, the relaxed atmosphere, having the freedom to go where I wanted, when I wanted.
We live here, in Omaha, Nebraska, because this is where the Air Force stuck us.

Terri, the photos are just breathtaking! I can see why you've always wanted to live there. As for me, if I really had to pick I would choose Paris or London - tall order, I know, ha-ha! I just love those two cities and there's so much going on. But I am also happy wherever I go as long as I have my husband and children with me. Any place would not be home without them. :)

Tiggerlane said...

Hmmm...I love my new house, but sure would like to live in California. Not sure why, but I think I would like it a lot there!

I'm not really worried about the "where" but wherever it is, it has to be in the middle of nowhere with no-one else around. I would like a people-free zone for me and my hounds!

I can understand your attraction to Alaska. I have it too! But I have always been drawn to Vermont. I have never been there, but one of my goals in life is to live there, even if it's just for a little while. Don't ask me why because I couldn't tell you.

Perhaps it's because I crave a change of seasons. FLorida is hot, still hot, Christmas, getting hot.

Woo! You live in a beautiful place!!

I'll admit for my own part that I'm impaired being a Texan: we Texans always are happy to be Texans and happy to live in Texas. However, I'll also admit to a lovely longing for Ireland, specifically the west coast, like County Kerry or County Clare, where I went on my honeymoon.

Great question!!

What a wonderful question! I really enjoyed reading your post! The pictures are breathtaking!

I want to live in Kansas. I was born and raised there. I couldn't wait to get away from there and see the world and now all I want to do is get back there. Specifically Manhattan, KS. The first time I went there I felt like I was home. Once I got out of HS I moved there and lived there for a couple years. Whenever I go there I still feel like I am home.
I guess there really is No Place Like Home!!

I would like to live in the Land of Oz, in the forest with the crabby, apple-throwing talking trees.

Unsure still have too many places to visit.

I always love your views! That's a tough question and one I thought of asking but yay, now I can read the answers you get. :)

I think I would like to live in Wyoming, what I've seen of it is beautiful but I like to see lots of areas so maybe I'd move to Oregon after a few years, then spend some time in Maine. . .

I've been to Alaska many times and each time I believe I could live there ! Not sure EXACTLY where, but would probably not stay during the winter !

I love Melbourne, Australia !

But, if given only ONE choice, it would be wherever my granddaugther lives.

I'm afraid I could never decide where I would live if I could choose.

This valley would have not ever been my choice. But I've learned to love it dearly.

I'd live in an English village with a couple of hairy dogs and a bunch of Jane Austen enthusiasts.

My friends Jane and robert come to Alaska every year to help with the Ididtorad races. they speak of how beautiful it is, especially in the spring. I understand now from seeing your photos. Keep hoping they'' ask me to travel there with them.

Stunning pictures of an unspoiled peace of paradise!
I can't decide on where I would like to live, the whole world is an amazing place. What I would like is to live in an imaginary place where I can hop from one breathtaking place to another mind boggling view, and visit a new place every time I feel like it!
But I already do, it's called the blogosphere! I can hop from Canada to Alaska and move on to Hawai whenever I feel like it, and I love it!

Your pictures leave me speechless time & times again...

Where would I like to live? Considering I've never been anywhere in Europe, I can't honestly say Paris! or England! Hell, I can't even say Greece! or Spain!

Rather, out of the places I know, I'd likely say Victoria, B.C. The whole vibe there is one that I would love to live on a daily basis. And if my daughter weren't screaming to me right now to get her drink, I'd continue... (but in the meantime, you should really look it up. Beautiful, I tell you... beautiful!)

I have a couple of answers for this one. My favorite place so far was Bloomington, IN where I went to grad school. I love the town because it was an isolated college town with a ton of culture and nature. But I'm not sure it would be as much fun if I was there, and not in school. Part of me thinks it would be great to move back to North Carolina where my family is. If so, I'd choose to live in Chapel Hill - another college town. And one more part of me thinks it would be great to live overseas as an expat and explore a completely different culture for a while.

It sure is beautiful there in Alaska.

Well, you probably guessed that my top choice is Maui. When we went there (for my brother's wedding), I couldn't believe that the place of my dreams really existed, down the last detail (well, except for the traffic, LOL, since there aren't many roads). As soon as I stepped into the airport, I felt at home. I was so happy and at peace there. I've lived in Wisconsin all my life, but have never felt at home here.

Did you know that when Hawaiians do move away from the islands, Alaska is a favorite destination of theirs?

beautiful photos...you definitely live in a gorgeous area..I am very envious of the eagles!! I saw one last year on Lake Shatta and he took my breath away!!

Great question...I live in California and really love it here. My ideal place to live would be in the redwoods somewhere, away from other people. I would also have to have a beach house somewhere on the coast of Northern California.

I'm busy packing boxes - as the move date is brought forward to Saturday 30th August. Yippee!!! If only the boxes can pack themselves ...

Always a joy to see such beautiful scenery of your island.

it's wonderful that you're living where you would dream to live....

i think i would want to live in one of those nice beach houses somewhere on a pretty beach. or in a cottage in a small town in england, like the ones on tv (only w/o the murders that seem to happen). or in that house from "rosemary & thyme"....
