Newborn puppies! Please look below this post for current posts

On Wednesday our close friends dog had puppies. We have been planning on getting one since we found out she was having puppies. They are soo cute! We are trying to think of a name for the puppy so that it will be called that before we bring him/her home. We are wanting to choose an Alaskan type of name but are having a hard time making a decision and I thought I would show you all the pics and see if anyone had any ideas for this little guy.

We have already chosen the one we want. I know awefully soon to choose one but we like it's markings. They are only 2 days old but really are showing little bits of their personalities.

Anyone got ideas/suggestions of great Alaskan type names for us? The mom is a blue heeler and the father was a husky mix so they will be kind of medium size.

Have a look at a couple of pics of our puppy!

I will update with new pictures of the puppy as it gets bigger until we bring him home as well.

Any ideas??

I'm going to leave this post up at the top for a couple of days so more people will get a chance to see and help with ideas since I know not everyone will be able to get to reading blogs with the Thanksgiving holiday.

Hi Terri,

I have been reading your blog for several months but have never commented. Your photos of your children and the area are great. I decided to delurk because of the new pup! I tried to find a native word for the word "white paw" and had no luck. I found out that the language of some residents in your city is Haida which is an endangered language. Name him/her that or maybe find out the the word for dog is. Just a thought.

Some info I found:
Haida:
Haida is the language of the southern half of Prince of Wales Island in the villages of Hyadaburg, Kasaan, and Craig, as well as a portion of the city of Ketchikan. About 600 Haida people live in Alaska, and about 15 of the most elderly of those speak the language. Haida is considered a linguistic isolate with no proven genetic relationship to any language family. A modern writing system was developed in 1972.

The "official" Website:
http://www.haidalanguage.org/

Scroll down to what it sounds like and it gives the name of a lady in Ketchikan who speaks the language.

I don't believe that I found all this stuff to give my ideas on naming your dog!

Have a wonderful holiday and I wish your family much success in all you do.

Must admit I was going to say "Paws" - judging by the size of those paws now at only 2 days old...

Or how about "White Fang" - after the movie -

Cute puppy and photo's too...

How adorable. I am not sure I could think of a good name. Our friends had an Akita named Yoshi. Echo is a nice name to, but more common. I think you are going to have more trouble now with all the options, than before, with few options.

Gorgeous. I think we'll take the plunge and find just the right puppy after Christmas.
Cheers

That is one itty little pup! Every blog I visit tonight (including mine) is posting somehow related to names...heheh.

You could use a place name, like Juneau, or you could tie back to pioneerish foodstuffs, like Hardtack, or you could give a shout out to the northern lights and the northern ecosystem with Boreal.

Fun!

Eskimo Pie.

Hey, the colors match and I haven't had lunch yet.

How about Mukluk. (?)

Mukluks are native Alaskan footwear and most puppies are normally underfoot (so it fits).

Good luck and Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving and stuff like that.

Oh Terri, he is just precious. Sorry I dont know any Alaskan names, but I think he looks like a Mike. A common name over here for blue heelers is Bluey, not very imaginative, I know, but common, none the less. We have owned two pure blue heelers in the past named Tammy and Timmy. They make wonderful pets and companions but need lots of exercise or become destructive. They are mainly working dogs in Australia but still make wonderful pets.

Congratulations on your new baby, he is just adorable.

Awww....

He reminds me of a brownie. How about Shesh, which means brown bear. Or Koko, which means chocolate. Or Pikatti, which means companion.
