Stairs....and a sunset

Okay I said I would post pictures of the stairs going down to my house. So your remember the long walk to my car and back right? If not go down to posts. Well before you can get to the trail to get to my car you have to go up these stairs. Look like fun? No not really.

Although I managed to get the picture in a rare moment of the boys actually working together to get something done....surprising thing is I didn't have to tell them to help each other they just did it....very odd around here. The white cord around the left side is lights that are strung up the banister so you can see where you are going when walking up or down the stairs at night.
Not that I actually leave often at night, well unless Kelly is out with me. You see I'm a big chicken and I worry about things in the woods. For some reason I'm okay with Kelly but by myself? Not so much.
Here is a picture of one of the eagles living by my house. If you click on the picture you can see it better.
Thank you to those of you who watched the video and I hope some of you did follow the links. It is a very important cause to me. I don't know a lot of people these days who haven't been touched by cancer and it seems to me that I run into people who's families have been touched by childhood cancer more often as well.

I commented about the frustrations I've had here in Ketchikan so far and a couple of people asked. It hasn't been so bad. The 3 younger kids are in school here and we found out they needed an additional vaccination on top of all the ones they already had before they could start school. I managed to get them into an appointment with the local pediatritian here before school started and they had their first visits and the vaccine. He was okay but will never compare to our old family doctor in Portland. We loved Dr Smucker! He was the dr that took care of me when I was pregnant with them and was there when they were born to see them first. He was fine though with their medications they are already on and agreed to continue doing things as we have been so that was good. After he left the room Maddie looked at me and said "he'll never be my buddy like Dr Smucker and Dr Holland (her opthomalogist)" it was really cute actually. The only problem was that we needed to get most of their prescriptions filled and it took 4 days to get them all called in to the pharmacy correctly. Once they got called in it took 2 more days to get the pharmacy to fill them because Madisons med had to be ordered because they don't normally have it, hopefully they will realize they need to keep it stocked now I don't want to have to wait for them to order it in from Seattle every month. Also getting Kenzies reflux medicine filled was a challenge. You would think they would have at least a couple of other kids on those meds here?

The other problem I've had was that no one ever informed me that I needed to inform the post office to deliver my mail. Any other time I've moved I filled out a change of address form and thats all it took. Joshua had left his glasses in Portland and I'd gotten my friend to mail them out but the post office didn't deliver it to the address because they hadn't been told to start delivery.

See really nothing that bad really once I got them fixed. It did take me 2 weeks to get Joshuas glasses since they decided to try to deliver them to another Dunn on the island. Weird...

Anyway I will leave you with a picture of my sunset from the other night. If you look straight out you can see the island out there is getting a pretty good rainfall.

Think how fit you will be running up and down those steps! Like you I think I might be a bit nervous at night especially with birds of prey lurking! It's sorting all the vital little things that is so frustrating when you move. I love your sunset picture.

Yes,I know every move bring some problems and of course sometimes frustrations. We are already moved often too because Andre was over 20 years at the army...With our post office we had always problems at the first time when we moved to a new town. With the schools or kindergarten it was okay. And unfortunately I have always the most problems to start new and I need always really long time to I can say : I am now here at home. The kids and Andre were always quick time after move at home...

How frustrating with the medications. But, I suppose that moving to a very small and remote town would have those challenges.

The one thing I hated about moving - losing great doctors. Fortunately, when I moved, the new pediatrician turned out to be awesome. My OBGYN, on the other hand - not happy with.

I was wondering how this house compares size wise to you old one as in bedrooms and square footage. and also in price?

What great exercise you'll get just going to your car and back!

I grew up out in the middle of nowhere, but I still hate being out in the country at night in the dark. Too many scary creatures out there! ;)

Thanks for sharing that last photo!

Hi Terri,

It was fun reading here and catching up with you at your latest digs. I can tell the location poses some challenges but the view is really great and the clean air and fresh water is an added plus.

Stay safe with your hubby and kids.

Best wishes,
EnidG

Ack! Those stairs would kill me! And I wouldn't fancy shovelling them in the winter. It's a good thing you are a more nature appreciating person than I am!

My boys would love those stairs, but not this mommy! ;-)

You do really have a fantastic place and a stunning view Terri...

Wow. You live in a gorgeous place!! Wow again.

Yeah those stairs would kill me, too, but I'm sure you're getting fitter! And after yor talk of bears, etc. I wouldn't be out walking at night by myself either.

Glad to read that some of those kinks (meds, etc.) are geting worked out.

I watched the video and it was heart wrenching.

Doggone Girl, those are some serious stairs!!

Those are definitely some frustrations, but hopefully things will smooth out.

gorgeous sunset and the eagle is pretty cool--- even though I hate birds.

things are so different there-- it will take awhile to get used to it all, but I know that you will get settled in and love it!

You'll get used to everything with time and hopefully you'll grow to love it there.
