Joshua's in the band!

My kids have decided to get all involved in things this year. It's odd to me because they have never really been into that kind of stuff. At their school they start band in the 5th grade, Joshua decided he wanted to join and when they had him try a few instruments they decided the trumpet would be good for him funny because my dad played the trumpet and my brother took lessons for a little while as well. Kelly's sister Gloria tried it but she was more of a flute and clarinette play, and Kelly played the alto sax for 6 years in school and the clarinette for one of those years also. Kelly's oldest sister played the flute. Apparently he has a lot of band people in his family. I never did although I took piano lessons for a couple of years but drove my piano teacher insane with my knuckle cracking!

Here are pictures of Joshua trying the trumpet on our back porch. Notice he is also wearing his glasses! He tried to leave them behind in Portland at a friends house but we got them sent up here (that was part of my issue with the Post Office). His teacher and the playground monitors at school know he is to have them on all the time, his teacher even called me the day he managed to get out of the house without them on.

And a couple of videos....

You are a very musical family.

I weant to see the videos. AND, I can't wait until the kiddos can play an instrument. The fun part is seeing which one they will end up with!!

hi terri, playing an instrument is fun. i played the violin for years, but neither of my children stayed with any instruments. just didn't seem to interest them.

i couldn't see the videos either, but i thought the "private" just meant you were only allowing certain people to view them.

Now I can see your video´s! Your kids are all really sweet and I´m sure Joshua can play the trumpet really good and he can give us a concert by video!

The little videos are sweet- is that your reflection in window in the background?

I remember when my eldest had saxophone lessons - eek. The current crop don't have the lip closure although they sure have the lung capacity.
Cheers

I'm being serenaded with Pirates of the Caribbean theme music 24/7 myself. I guess it could be worse though I'm starting to go a little batty with it.

ha... I can see you and your video camera i the background.

nice to have big open space to practice that horn and not annoy the neighbors.

I'd been trying to post a video for two days... and saw your VIMEO version. Tried it... loaded up immediately and is now on my post.

It is wonderful when the kids take interest in an instrument. Our kids are in a percussion band, take piano and have done (some are still), hand bells. His glasses look good. My 10 year old hopes every October, that her eyes are bad enough to get glasses.

It sounded like an elephant to us too. I have addressed the post card, and just have to remember to take it with me.

Ahhh! Music is great for the soul! Im sure he will be tootin' his stuff in no time! Is there a time limit on the postcards? I will send one this week from our home area but thought it would be nice to send one from the Country town we will be visiting next weekend too.

I think Joshua looks great in his glasses-- very handsome!

that's great that all the kids are being involved with something this year.

Great pictures- tell Joshua I think he's handsome with his glasses on!
I always wanted to play the trumpet or the sax, but it made me feel light headed to try. So, I played the piano.
Now, is he playing on the back porch until he gets better? And then you'll let him play inside?? ;)

Music Music Music...every kiddo should learn to play an instrument.
I can almost hear that trumpet from here.

Oh how I wish I had my volume! YEAH for music! It's such a great thing to be involved in! (Says the girl who played viola for half her life!)

The glasses? Too cute by the way. Tell him he looks like a little model boy in them and should wear them often to look super duper fly (I'm pretty sure super duper fly is no longer cool so perhaps you should investigate what the current hip phrase is and substitute that instead. :) )

he be playin' the hornpipe and flyin' the jolly roger, the scurvy bilge rat!!!

I'm gonna try your video version here. I haven't been able to upload videos in ages.
